The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Career Services held their inaugural Partners Day event on Monday, July 28. The event was designed as the University’s first attempt to educate human resource professionals on recruiting trends, how to reach UW Oshkosh students and available campus services. Seventy-eight recruiters from the area attended the three-hour workshop.
Topics such as networking, recruiting the millennial generation, the value of internships and partnership opportunities with UW Oshkosh Career Services were discussed.
After the Partners Day event, attendees were surveyed on their thoughts about the program. Forty-two attendees responded to the survey. Overall, the survey showed that recruiters felt the main motivation to attend the workshop was the presentation on how to recruit and maintain the millennial generation. The millennial generation is another name for Generation Y, the generation that was born in the ’80s and ’90s and is now entering the workforce.
The University also used the time to promote several of the services available to local businesses. UW Oshkosh hosts the Career Fair on the Fox, a once-a-semester career fair in which the University encourages involvement by employers. The University also advises employers to participate in its other student services, such as mock interviews, on-campus recruiting and dining with professionals.
Partners Day is being planned as an annual event. Interested employers can contact Kathy Pykkonen or Jaime Page-Stadler of UW Oshkosh Career Services at (920) 424-2181 for more information on the Partners Day event or any of Career Services partnerships and opportunities.
