As you may know, UW System President Kevin Reilly has recently announced his selection of University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Provost and Vice Chancellor Lane Earns to serve as interim Chancellor at UW-Parkside while a search is conducted there to find a successor to Chancellor John P. Keating.Lane is highly respected by President Reilly, UW System administrators, fellow UW Provosts and his UW Oshkosh colleagues due to his outstanding 21-year record as a faculty member, department chair, associate provost and provost at UW Oshkosh. We are proud that Lane was chosen for this position, and we are pleased that he has accepted this call to serve our colleagues at UW-Parkside during this period of transition.

Currently, I am working to identify an acting Provost and Vice Chancellor who will temporarily replace Lane here at UW Oshkosh, and to that end, I will be consulting next week with the UPLAN Council (composed of officers of the Faculty Senate, the Oshkosh Student Association, the Senate of Academic Staff and the Classified Staff Advisory Council), the Chancellor’s Staff and the Provost’s Staff to obtain their advice and counsel.

The UW Oshkosh shared governance leadership team of faculty, academic staff, students, classified staff and administrators has proven to be very stable, seasoned and successful. Therefore, I am very confident that the UW Oshkosh shared governance leadership team will continue to fulfill our mission and realize our vision while interim Chancellor Earns serves the UW-Parkside community during their leadership transition.

I hope to be able to announce the appointment of an acting Provost and Vice Chancellor to temporarily replace Lane the week of July 21.
