Wonder Wombs
Description
Will we soon be conceiving and growing babies outside women's bodies? The very first baby conceived following a womb transplant was born in Sweden in 2014. The film relates this scientific undertaking, which has ignited hope among the 1 in 5,000 women born without a uterus, as well as among women who have lost their wombs to cancer or an accident. In France, two medical teams are currently preparing to embark upon a protocol designed for a small group of young women who do not have wombs. This medical exploit marks a new chapter in the fight against sterility. And as medical advances meet the concerns of society, transsexuals and homosexuals view it as the opportunity to experience pregnancy themselves. The prospect of babies developing entirely outside the womb in an artificial uterus is getting closer.
