Goodbye Godot. Theaterland
Description
This eight-part documentary series goes back stage to cover six months in the life of London's Theater Royal Haymarket from all angles, including the arrival of new artistic director Sean Mathias and the lead up to his production of Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot," starring Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. In the sixth episode, the company puts on the final performance of a 172 show run-the most successful in the play's history. Actors and theater employees have mixed emotions about moving on to the next project. McKellen, Stewart, Simon Callow, and Ronald Pickup discuss the ephemeral aspects of theatrical production and reflect on their close knit bond after having worked together for nine months. After the show, there is a cast party to see them off.
