Jiri Kylian's Car Men
Description
The musical black and white film Car-men is the first collaboration between Jirí Kylián and film director Boris Paval Conen. They shot the film together with four dancers in a brown coal mine in the Czech Republic, where Kylián made the choreography directly on site. The story about passion and revenge is based on the opera Carmen . The dancers, all over forty, play the four archetypes from the opera: the restless and seductive Carmen, the hopelessly infatuated Don José, Escamillio de conqueror, and Micaëla the naïve Samaritan. Together they depict the bizarre story of four children who have grown old and try to come to terms with themselves and each other.
