Reformation

Description

The Reformation split the medieval Church asunder, producing religious wars, massacres and persecutions. Ann Widdecombe, MP, was brought up as a Protestant in the Church of England but became a Catholic fifteen years ago. She finds much to support in the Reformation's initial goals but argues that it went badly wrong, leading Europeans, previously united religiously, to see each other as enemies. She shows how the Reformation played out in England. Beyond the battles of kings, popes and theologians, she explores the way ordinary people responded to the Reformation and its consequences.
