Heroes in Defeat
Description
This film explores a point in Celtic history when women were often tribal leaders, warriors, bards, druids, artists, and craftsmen. The La Tene era was named for the site in Switzerland where a rich cache of artifacts were discovered in 1857, and it was the heyday of Celtic culture. Their little known settlements as well as their massive hill-torts tell of inhabitants who traded within and beyond Europe, and their militaristic focus led to clashes with the Romans and the eventual collapse of their highly developed culture.
