Haiti. Year Zero

Description

Haiti is a country in ruins. The earthquake killed more than 200,000 people, left millions more homeless, destroyed the country's infrastructure and most of it's buildings and left it reliant on foreign aid. Amidst all of this, local people are tackling child trafficking gangs that are preying on the poor and needy, marauding gangs of thieves - many of them prisoners who escaped from jail when the prison was destroyed by the quake and a lack of police. We travelled to Haiti and found a proud people who are trying to make the best of a terrible situation. We witnessed some remarkable rescue efforts by Mexico's famous "Los Topos" (moles). We also saw some businesses re-opening in difficult conditions, orphanages springing up to give shelter to children, make-shift homes being built and went on tour with the Justice Minister. But it will be a long fight back to normality for a people who have lost virtually everything.
