North of Fairbanks, in the middle of the tundra, a crew prepares to cut into the Trans Alaska Pipeline (TAPS) while 800 miles of oil continues to course through its arteries. The threat of an oil spill looms large if the weak link in the chain is not removed. The stakes are sky high: 36 hours, 100 crew members, and five million dollars. Every second that the pipeline is out of commission means mega bucks down the drain. But holding back the force of 11 million gallons of oil is far from simple; there's usually only one shutdown a year because it's such a bear of an operation. Working under the midnight sun alongside a seasoned team of Alaskan workers, Riley participates in a tightly orchestrated surgery where everyone has to be in the right place, with the right tool, at exactly the right time-or else.
