Breakthrough
Description
Some artists fear that psychotherapy will dull their creative edge and rob them of the spirit that informs their work. But many report that analysis has allowed for a richer exploration of the inner world, enhancing their art and leading to a liberating sense of personal growth. In this program, eight artists discuss their psychoanalytic treatment and explain how the combination of therapy and creative work enriched their lives. Highlights include the testimony of painter Andy Hammerstein, who just wanted to turn off the distracting voices in his head, and sculptor Helene Brandt, who resisted therapy at first but now has nothing but praise for its effects.
