The Sacred Pact
Description
The long-held belief that different life forms compete with each other for domination has been giving way to a more nuanced view-that in certain environments, species may instead cooperate, maintaining a fragile pact based on a balance of predation and cohabitation. In this program, the Tara Oceans researchers sail to the Red Sea to learn how the millions of different plankton species coexist. While the team navigates political threats, they study the survival tactics of marine microfauna and the conditions that lead to biodiversity, noting the role of symbiosis in plankton and in coral reefs, and the broader implications of this. Original title: The Fragile Pact.
