Frank Zappa. Straight to Bizarre
Description
Desperate to remove himself from his original deal with Verve Records, in 1968 Frank Zappa set up the Bizarre and Straight labels in league with manger Herb Cohen. Actually, Zappa co-founded two labels - the Straight and Bizarre imprints (which were distributed by Warner Brothers). And not only was Zappa's then-band, the Mothers of Invention, part of the collective roster, but so were some other now-legendary artists, including Captain Beefheart and Alice Cooper. This film revisits and reviews the astonishing music that came out on Bizarre and Straight, and reveals the background, operations, and the lives of the musicians, performers, and management who made these labels the legendary reality they became.
