This film looks behind the facts and between the lines in an attempt to discover the why and the how of Elvis Presley's illustrious and inimitable career. Why was rock and roll invented in Memphis by a quiet young man with a passion for all types of music? How did the events that led up to that fateful session on July 5th, 1954 conspire to create a brand new music and a brand new way of life for all those who came along in its wake? This film explores how the phenom Elvis Presley came to exist, and how The King's music shaped a generation. The program features contributions from those who were there at the time and interviews still others who have studied the subject in depth. You'll also experience rare footage, photographs, music from both pivotal and obscure recording sessions, along with a host of other fascinating features.
