Venice City Guide. Pilot Guides

Description

This Pilot Guides episode follows Justine Shapiro through Venice, a city on a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea off mainland Italy. It is a maze of over 100 tiny islands linked together by a network of bridges and there are no cars in the city. Justine takes a waterbus along the Grand Canal and then marvels at the basilica in St. Mark's Square, which Napoleon called "the finest drawing room in Europe." She rides in a gondola, attends the annual Venice Film Festival, visits a fishing village famous for lace-making, mingles with young Venetians, takes a tour with the city's most infamous lover and libertine, Casanova, sees Doge's Palace, and learns about the logistics and difficulties of a city built on water. Finally, she participates in one of the city's festivals, the annual Rowing Regatta.
