Rio de Janeiro City Guide. Pilot Guides
Description
In this Pilot Guides episode Ian Wright travels the south-east coast of Brazil and stays in the carnival capital of the world, Rio de Janeiro. He checks out the beach at Copacabana and tours the wealthy district of Santa Tereza, home of notorious ex-train robber Ronnie Biggs. He then takes a tourist train to the top of Corcovado, a 2,200 foot mountain topped by a massive statue of Christ the Redeemer. He tours the tropical rainforest of Taguca National Park, goes hang-gliding over the city vistas, visits the depressed favelas, and attends a big football game at the Maracana Stadium. In Parati, a town known for cachaça, Ian witnesses its creation and samples the pure alcoholic beverage. Back in Rio the carnival celebrations are heating up and Ian learns how to samba at one of the samba schools that compete in the parade. He ends his trip partying at the carnival all night long.
