Healing the Brain. Secrets of Your Mind
Description
Neurosurgeon-the word conjures up almost superhuman skills and knowledge, not to mention the ability to work under intense pressure. But even the most gifted doctor is still a human being contending with human ailments, and the dilemmas that crop up during a neurosurgeon's "typical" shift are all the more fascinating because of it. This ABC News program goes inside the operating room of West Virginia University's Health Sciences Center, following Dr. Julian Bailes as he performs brain surgery on several different patients. Dr. Bailes must save the life of a woman admitted to the hospital comatose with massive brain hemorrhaging. To control another patient's seizures, he may have to remove parts of her brain holding precious memories and her ability to recognize her own daughter. This is real-life medical drama at its most compelling.
