Understanding Glaucoma

Description

An estimated three million Americans have glaucoma, a condition that if left untreated can lead to blindness. The real tragedy is that half these people don't realize they have the disease - even though testing for it is quick, easy, and painless. To be sure, the understanding of glaucoma has come a long way over the past 20 years. But the sad fact is that many people still don't get tested in time to prevent it. This episode is designed not only to examine what glaucoma is and how to treat it, but to encourage viewers to get tested for it. As the program points out, however, 10 percent of the time, even when glaucoma is diagnosed and treated early, it still causes blindness.
