Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Description
Until the 1980s people who worried intensely about a wide range of issues were simply deemed "neurotic." This program examines the DSM-IV-TR criteria now used to diagnose and treat the condition of generalized anxiety disorder. Listing the physical and psychological symptoms of GAD, the video explains how coping mechanisms-excessive drinking, TV watching, or multi-tasking-are employed by people with the disorder as a way to escape their negative thoughts. Experts discuss the relative effectiveness of medication, cognitive therapy, and relaxation techniques in treating GAD.
