Newfoundland, Canada. Don't Forget Your Passport
Description
Host Karen Blaine visits the last province in Canada to join the confederation in 1949. Wandering along the rocky coast, Karen learns how fishermen in a small village manage to survive the harsh climate and feed their families after the cod industry was virtually destroyed by greed and poor government management during the 1990s, throwing 30,000 families into instant poverty. Karen also attends a bizarre drinking ceremony, travels the Celtic route where British and Irish settled hundreds of years ago, and explores the rugged landscapes and riverbanks in this rarely visited Canadian province.
