Alexander Pushkin
Description
Compelled by a stalwart (or perhaps fragile) sense of honor, the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin stood his ground in over two dozen duels-a penchant that ultimately ended his life. His writing was equally passionate, his political attitudes equally combative. In this program, Pushkin is portrayed in living color by a gifted actor who communicates the poet's wide-ranging ideas, attitudes, and experiences. Meanwhile, beautiful renditions of songs based on Pushkin's poetry are presented, including Sergey Rachmaninoff's "Romance in F major," the "Elegia" from Anton Arensky's Piano Trio No. 1, and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "The Clouds Begin to Scatter.
