Malaria. Kill or Cure, Series 3. Part 6
Description
Uganda is at a turning point in its fight against malaria. In Kampala's Mulago hospital, a staggering percentage of admissions are due to malaria and it is the highest cause of death amongst patients. The parasite is becoming resistant to the standard treatments, and infecting children of younger ages. Just as worrying-some mosquitoes are becoming immune to the insecticide commonly used on mosquito nets. This program investigates how scientists are adapting to meet these new threats. An evolving network of local distributors and a new drug administered in suppository form are inspiring cautious hope that millions of lives might be saved, both here in Uganda and around the world.
