Hepatitis C
Description
The most common blood-borne infection in the United States, hepatitis C is also one of the most frequent causes of chronic liver disease. Nurses encounter patients infected with HCV in a variety of health care settings. Many are actively involved in providing either inpatient or outpatient care for HCV-infected persons and therefore risk exposure through needlestick and sharps injuries. This program builds awareness of the HCV threat and helps educate both medical staff and patients in safe practices. Viewers discover the natural history of the virus; examine modes of transmission; learn about signs, symptoms, and populations at risk; and explore the stigma associated with HCV infection.
