Conquistadores
Description
What kind of people were the conquistadores? And why did so many of them come from Extremadura, a region of western Spain? This program delves into the history of the area and its link to the Americas. In the process, it brings up important ways to discuss historical and geographical concepts in Spanish, resulting in a highly useful tool for beginning or advanced Spanish language students. While it doesn't shy away from the fact that Spain's conquest of the New World was violent on many levels, it does help viewers see the immense historical value of the religious and cultural sites with which Extremadura is so richly endowed.
