The program acknowledges feelings that children can experience when their parents remarry, including resentment and hostility toward new stepsiblings and half-siblings and a loss of privacy and trust.but it provides a clear strategy for improving relationships and circumstances, with the help of the acronym SCOOP: Supportive respect, Communication, a double-helping of Optimism, and Patience. Correlates to all applicable National and State Educational Standards including the NCLB Act.
