The Bonus Army in Washington D.C. ca. 1932
Description
In 1932 approximately 15,000 World War I veterans gathered in Washington, D.C., to demand prepayment of a wartime service bonus - not due until 1945 - as unemployment rates and poverty levels skyrocketed during the Depression. President Herbert C. Hoover's denial of their request contributed to his defeat in that year's presidential election.
