Description
During the cold war, the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) held a number of high-profile hearings investigating communism in the U.S. government. Alger Hiss, a former State Department employee, was accused by Whitaker Chambers, a self-described former communist, of lying about his connection to the Soviet Union and passing on sensitive government documents to Chambers to transmit to the Soviet Union.
