Description
This program traces the evolution of the American skyscraper over the 20th century and speculates on the skyscraper of the future. A study of landmark structures ranging from the Home Insurance Building and the Singer Building, to the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building, to the World Trade Center and the Sears Tower serves as a timeline of U.S. skyscraper history. In addition, some of America's best-known architects and engineers explain how they have overcome the challenges of constructing higher and higher buildings.
