Battle for Our River
Description
The government plans to build a series of hundreds of dams to provide hydro-electric power and water to the cities, but a group of women from the villages say no; that would destroy the ecosystem and the livelihoods of thousands of people. This documentary is about the battle for the Namada River. For two decades, these women have been fighting against the armed might of the state, big business, and the construction industry. They are disciplined and singular in their determination. They will not waver and are not afraid, even though they have been beaten and imprisoned. This is the story of the women of Namada Valley and their passion to protect their environment and the river they love.
