Josep Pla. A Fondo—In Their Own Words

Description

On December 8, 1976 Josep Pla (1897-1981) granted Joaquín Soler Serrano an exceptional interview for the series A FONDO. It was three months to turn eighty, and for eighty minutes everything was discussed, or almost everything, allowing us to approach, as in no other document, his personality, with polemical and forceful statements: "I smoke to look for adjectives ... I have no envy and that is why I am relatively happy ... I am a chafardero and a constant talker ... Irony is the impossibility of saying something ... The Castilian language is a long phrase that ends up in fishtail ... I drink whiskey constantly ... Spaniards are historically dissatisfied ... I think the man who reads novels from the age of thirty-five is a jerk ... The most characteristic feature of Pla : the ignorance."
