Description
This documentary explores interconnected global developments during the 14th and 15th centuries. Viewers learn about Africa’s Golden Age through the perspective of Ibn Battuta, who crossed the Sahara Desert to trade salt for gold in Mali. African gold funded the Italian Renaissance and Venice’s fledgling banking industry. Chinese rebels developed the first firearm to defeat the Mongols and found the Ming Dynasty. The gun traveled to Europe, where Christian armies took back Spain from the Moors. The Catholic monarchs would fund Christopher Columbus’ dream to reach Asia via a western route across the Atlantic. Finally, Johannes Gutenberg's printing press revolutionized knowledge and began the information age.
