The Abraham File
Description
The story of Abraham-patriarch of the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian religions-is an elusive one, dating to prehistory. In this program, investigators trace a seminal biblical story through archaeological sites, art, and literature. Hebron, location of Abraham's tomb, presents an interesting paradox in light of conflicts between Jews and Palestinians there. At the Temple Mount in old Jerusalem-the site of Abraham's sacrifice of his son, Isaac-religious bickering continues over whether Jews, Muslims, or Christians should control that portion of the city. Through interviews with archaeologists and theologians, investigators attempt to answer questions: Did Abraham really exist? What is his significance as "first father" to three major religions? What mark has the sacrifice of Abraham left on world culture and on the imaginations of believers?
