Having a Mentally-Handicapped Baby. A Crack in the Crystal
Description
It may come as a surprise, sometimes at birth, often months later. Or it may be determined as a result of genetic testing during pregnancy. This program deals with the agonies and the joys, as well as the endless cycle of wrenching questions, that families face when confronted by the problem of mental handicap in their child: whether to terminate a pregnancy or how to cope with the upheavals and disruption caused by the mentally-handicapped child; whether to relinquish the child to a surrogate family-an institution or foster parents. The program shows how different parents respond to the complex problems of having a mentally-handicapped child.
