Origins of a mountain
Description
The snow-capped Himalayan-Pamir Mountain Belt is the "roof" of a ridge of folded and faulted rocks formed by the collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates. For those who attempt to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain peak on land, time is not on their side. Tectonics and surficial processes continue to raise the Himalayan Mountains to new heights at some of the fastest uplift rates in the world.
