Nature Inc. Alien invasion. Episode 13
Description
The destruction of ecosystems by alien plants and animals is costing the global economy billions of dollars daily. In their native environments, plants and animals like the Japanese knotweed and the Burmese python are held in check by other species that have evolved to live alongside them. Transferred by us to other ecosystems, species are suddenly freed from constraints of predation and competition. As a result, their populations are exploding – often with devastating consequences. Invasions have made their mark from the tropics to the poles. But the country that has been hit harder than most is: Australia.
