Description
Jack Spadaro, superintendent of the National Mine Health and Safety Academy in West Virginia, was fired for speaking out against a federal and industry failure connected to the investigation of one of the largest environmental accidents in Appalachia. In October 2000, three hundred million gallons of coal slurry containing arsenic and mercury spilled out of a reservoir in southern West Virginia, polluting a huge area. Bob Simon reports.
