The familiar face of love

Description

The Familiar Face of Love is an engaging study of love and loving, a look at how we choose our mates and for what reasons. Although in many countries marriages are still being carefully arranged by parents, we in the West have long ago rejected this in favor of marrying for love. Yet falling in love is not as haphazard as it sometimes appears. Dr. John Money, of Johns Hopkins Hospital and author of numerous books on gender and sexuality, talks of a love map--a mental blueprint of the ideal relationship we carry within us. This is formed by attitudes and experiences from early childhood. As infants, we learn about love and closeness from interaction with our parents. On a kibbutz in Israel, we see sex rehearsal play among young children, which Dr. Money feels is an essential stage in the development of a healthy love map. This fascinating film gives us insight into whom we fall in love with, and why.
