Exploring the world. Singapore

Description

This excellent program introduces viewers to one of the most vibrant and modern cities in the world, Singapore, which is actually an independent city-state in southeastern Asia that is comprised of one major island and more than 50 small adjacent islets. Located off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, Singapore consists of an ethnically diverse population, including Chinese (about 78 percent), Malays (14 percent), and Indians (7 percent). It has a colonial influence that dates back to its founding in 1819 by the British colonial administrator Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles (for whom the Raffles Hotel, an architectural landmark, was named). This informative tour reveals how a multi-culture society successfully co-exists while each cultural group maintains its distinct identity.
