Exploring the world. Hong Kong. Asia. 1
Description
This program offers a glimpse at one of the most remarkable places in the world, Hong Kong, which became a part of China in 1997. It is home to almost six million people and is the world's third largest trading center. We begin our tour at Victoria Harbor as we take a harbor cruise on Duckling, the last draft in Hong Kong. Originally these wooden boats transported cargo, but now Duckling acts as a cruise ship and shares the harbor with over 10,000 crafts daily. From the harbor visitors can take the Peak Tram to the top of Victoria Peak to get a panoramic view of the city, but the best way to learn about the city is to stroll its streets and byways. There are plentiful shopping opportunities, from malls and boutiques to open-air markets, and a variety of different regional Chinese restaurants are available so visitors can sample all the local delicacies. Religious temples provide another view of the culture, and the Song Dynasty Village is a re-construction of a traditional village where tourists can learn more about Chinese customs. A must-see is Aberdeen, a fishing community south of Victoria Harbor, that is best known for its floating restaurants, where a dim-sun lunch is the highlight of the visit!
