Ancient whispers
Description
The notion that everything - stars, planets, people, even time itself - began with a huge explosion is one of the most bizarre ideas of astronomy. But more bizarre is the idea that an ancient heat relic from this event is still with us. Yet that is exactly what the COBE (Cosmic Background Explorer) satellite confirmed. The big bang did occur and is the final piece in the jigsaw of theories, experiments, lucky coincidences and plain hard work dating back to Aristotle.
