Water issues

Description

Water connects our world: linking continents; linking people; linking lives. It is the one precious resource that every single person in the world relies on for survival. But by the end of the century, almost half the world could face a global water shortage, as water usage increases at twice the rate of population growth. In Kenya, the Massai are adapting to water shortages with the use of rainwater tanks. An Israeli scientist is solving the problems of the Dead Sea's sinkholes. Iceland is tapping volcanic rocks for water and harnessing geothermal energy. Around the world, the IUCN water programme is helping to restore balance to worldwide water distribution issues. Also on this episode, Zambia learns water conservation techniques; evolutions in recycling water, and harnessing wave energy; and Sweden's first marine park.
