Park Shanghai

Description

At Dong's first college reunion, the room is abuzz with rekindled friendships and celebratory toasts until his ex Reirei walks in. As he tells his friends that everything between them is over, even they know he's not being completely honest. His old friend Nick says that Dong should express his feelings to her, but Reirei is married and with a baby on the way. Besides, Dong's only in town for one night. What can talking possibly accomplish? Yet as the night goes on, drinks and old memories inevitably draw the pair together. Subtly and deeply moving, "Park Shanghai" honestly captures the transitional lives of urban 20-something college graduates, already nostalgic and unsure of the road ahead. With stories from Inner Mongolia to Los Angeles to London, it also documents China's movement from rural to urban, and from urban to global superpower. But despite their geographic separation, the stories of Dong and his classmates testify that everyone is driven by their own individual loves.
