Since 2004, more than ten million books from libraries all over Europe and the US have been scanned into Google's electronic index, to be accessed by anyone in the world with an internet connection. Researchers from Australia's James Cook University have discovered a type of algae that soaks up carbon dioxide at a rate that makes carbon emissions experts keen to invest. Synchrotron allows scientists to probe the chemistry behind diseases like multiple sclerosis, in order to find a cure. It is the newest and most sophisticated particle accelerator in the world.
