Polygons
Description
Teaching Award winner Jonny Heeley inspires a group of gifted and talented KS2 pupils with an active lesson about polygons. With an emphasis on pupil participation, Jonny explores the definition of a polygon before helping them produce their own squares, triangles and hexagons.Calculating the inside angles of these polygons is the next stage. This allows them to create tessellated patterns using a variety of different polygons. In an entertaining twist, Jonny invites the pupils to help him make a success of his tile shop by creating a number of tessellated designs for his customers. This lesson provides maths teachers with some concrete and accessible ways to teach students all about polygons.
