Bright extroverts
Description
Behaviour guru John Bayley helps teachers identify strategies that work with student behaviour that presents perennial problems in the classroom, even for the most talented of teachers. Every class has them, bright, engaged students who tend to dominate lessons. Their attention-seeking behaviour can take up large proportion of the teacher's time, sometimes at the expense of other pupils. So what can be done? Working in Bishop Stopford's School in Enfield with maths teacher, Ben Pearce, and geography teacher, Rhys Jones, John focuses on three Year 9 pupils who dominate both teachers' classes. The teachers don't want to damage their enthusiasm, but they do want to improve the teaching and learning experience for everyone in their lessons. The solution the teachers decide to try out is to attempt to use the students' energy in more constructive ways - as leaders of group activities. But will it work?
