Pedagogy
Description
Joy Jarvis, Principal Lecturer in Education at the School of Education, University of Hertfordshire, lectures on pedagogy to her PGCE students. She begins by defining pedagogy and explaining that lessons with the same lesson plan will not be the same, as they are affected by environment, the social make-up of the class, and even the day of the week and time of day. Joy talks about planning, and encourages students to be aware of their pedagogy throughout their careers. As they develop, they need to re-assess and adapt the strategies they use so that they continue to be effective teachers. To do this, she encourages the students to put themselves in their pupils shoes. She explains the importance of students monitoring their behaviour in the classroom, by asking them to recall their emotional responses to their experiences during their own school days.
