Ideas on making the most of the media to recruit staff, such as using local radio to target the local community, and getting a new head with the help of a national press story.Fairfield High School in Bristol is a part of a culturally diverse community but attracting learning support assistants which reflected that community was proving impossible. Until staff member Bunge Adedeji came up with the idea of advertising on community radio. Overnight applications soared and all sectors of the community were represented. Waterloo Primary School in Blackpool is a large primary school with a strong local reputation. But when headteacher Peter Rawcliffe announced his imminent retirement, the school struggled to attract sufficient interest in the vacancy. By embracing the interest of the local and then a national newspaper, a new headteacher was found and is now busy settling in to his new post.
