Academies in detail
Description
Mike Baker visits Watford Grammar School For Boys, one of thirty two schools to be granted Academy Status under the coalition government's new Academies Act. We ask how things have changed for the school and whether more will follow their lead. We speak to Martin Post, head of Watford Grammar School for Boys, about the technical process of becoming an Academy School and the school's motivation behind the move. We assess in detail the major areas of consideration for a school planning on becoming an Academy--from financial implications to teachers pay, special education needs and the role of local authorities.
