Drama into the curriculum

Description

An overview of the benefits of incorporating drama into the curriculum is expressed by Tim Boyes, Headteacher at performing arts college status Queensbridge School in Birmingham, and Jonathan Neelands, Course Leader MA Drama Education at Warwick University. Their opinion is that by incorporating drama skills into their lessons teachers are helping students to develop their kinaesthetic, inter- and intra-personal and language skills. Kate Fanshawe, Head of Drama, leads a series of training sessions to help teachers start to develop a bank of active strategies to use drama within their subject areas. Using drama in the science classroom is explored in detail as Kate works with science teacher Louise Maddam to plan a series of lessons on the digestive system for Year 9. The students are seen actively engaging in the subject matter in the science classroom and drama studio and giving feedback about their view of the lessons.
