Finance

Description

What happens when a school face a serious budget crisis and how should the governors intervene to help solve the immediate crisis and prevent it from happening again? This the theme for today's debate by our panel of governors, centred around a hypothetical but realistic scenario posed by a series of reconstructions. Questions about the competence of the finance committee are discussed, as are the high levels of staff sickness. Governor expert, Paul McGann, is on hand as usual to offer accurate advice and guidance. He's keen to get across the need for constant monitoring of a school's budget by governors, and reminds the panel that the governing body has ultimate responsibility for financial management. In our scenario, redundancies are inevitable, and the governors discuss how the process should be managed.
