Secondary English and maths
Description
The Parents Guide explores what is going on in schools today and discusses some of the key issues from a parent's point of view. In this programme, presenter Fiona Millar and two parents, David Taylor and Kathryn Kergozou, together with Simon Gibbons from De Montfort University, discuss how English and maths are being taught in secondary schools. They look at some Teachers TV programmes and see how these core subjects are presenting new challenges for teachers, pupils and, of course, parents. What is a lesson like from an award-winning English teacher? How has teaching Shakespeare changed? How do teachers choose activities in maths to make it relevant? What is the best way to support your child's learning in maths?Viewers can hear the opinions of parents and gain an insight into what other schools are doing in this area.
